JazzMoov is a monthly get-down for the passionate dancers in LA, who love their house music Jazzy and Swingy. Despite being the coldest, rainiest night thus far this year here in LA the premier night of this new monthly wasn't too shabby! I opened the night with a selection of smooth, jazzified, scratchy old house records. There are even a couple skips in the set so you know it is real wax! I kept the set fairly mellow as folks were arriving, fitting the mood of the rainy night quite nicely. Enjoy!

After 15 long years, the legendary and beloved DJ Moonpup made his long awaited return to Los Angeles. LA welcomed home one of its lost sons of the crossfader in a special 5+ hour set of stellar music spun with creativity and irreverence, the likes of which LA rarely sees!
Here are a few shots from the night. FREE DOWNLOAD links of all 5 hours of Moonpup's set as well as the live sets from Mixmaster Massey and J Funk are at the end of this post.
Thank you to Felix for some of these pictures of the night. Check out all the pics HERE.
Few DJ's can call themselves truly oldskool and Moonpup is one of them. In the early nineties Moonpup was part of a sprouting scene of LA warehouse parties and underground clubs, where the first Techno and House music was heard. He was an original resident of Sketchpad, an "after, after party" that started at 10am Sunday morning and featured LA wax legends DJ's Taylor and Eli Star.
In 1992 Moonpup traveled to the San Francisco Bay Area where he made his mark on many undergrounds including the first 3 day rave called the Woopy Ball, (also his first Bay Area party). Nearly 6,000 people attended over the three days and two nights. Moonpup's sets were easily the most memorable of the event. For more on the Woopy Ball click here.
After leaving an indelible mark on the San Francisco in the 4 years he was there, Moonpup disappeared to Europe where he spent nearly a decade playing Breaks and Big Beat in danceclubs and then, most recently he has been living in New York.
The following are mediafire links that will take you to the free downloads of every set from the night including all 5 hours of Moonpup's set. Click on the sets to go to the download.
This first two parts are his uptempo portions of his set and the second two parts Moonpup takes things slower and dare I say even trippier with some ambient qualities.
In support for this night was long time LA breaks DJ J-Funk & Creator of the Woopy Ball (and of this party), Mixmaster Noah Massey. Also in support was Lucas Dodson of Distant Beat. Below is the last half hour of Mixmaster Massey's set.
Please don't take this 2 hour mix of very cheesy dance music seriously! Originally put together for a friend's "Eurotrash" themed party, this mix of the corniest Italidisco, bad New Beat, dorky Boogie and a variety of silly New Wave maybe soo bad that it has come full circle to being cool again (if they ever were). There are actually some bionafied hits and some early 80's electro gems to be found throughout. Most tracks in the mix come from the 80's and 90's. I will post a track list if requested but for now lets just leave most of these tragically bad dance cuts anonymous. Download for FREE and please enjoy.
101 Minutes of funky future disco hotness! There's a few classics in the mix but most of it is forward sounding disco-ish jams filled with joy and fun. The soundtrack for the perfect Summer of FUN!! Tracks range in BPM from about 106 to 118 - For the steady groovers out there... TURN IT UP 2 GET DOWN!

This comes from the first hour, the opening set selected and spun by Mixmaster Massey. A nice blend of mellow Jazzy "Fender Rhodes" tracks from the 60's to today mixed with Smooth and Jazzy Hip Hop. Throughout the set you hear the spot-on toasting of Jazz Tonic's host MC Prefyx plus a little feedback occasionally but that's how you know it's all live! The perfect start. The night went up a few notches once the Handroids took over with MC Prefyx and AJ on the vocals. This live set was off the hook and we are thrilled to share it with you! About the middle of the set was interrupted for a little surprise birthday action for Jazz Tonic's host MC Prefyx. The Lady Tigra sang Happy Birthday to him and all the guests were given cupcakes!
